Welcome to

Eola Hills

Miniature Donkey Farm

Eola Hills Miniature Donkey Farm is smack dab in the middle of Oregon's wine country where we sit on a hill about 920' up.  The view is spectacular!  The farm overlooks Mt. Hood, Mt. Saint Helens and 3 other mountains on the East side and on the West side we have the Pacific Coastal Mountain range where we watch gorgeous sunsets!!!   We have wineries and fields of grapes all around us...pinot noir, merlot, pinot blanc, shiraz and cab's!!  Mixed in with these are Filbert/Hazelnut orchards and fields of rye grass/oats and wheat!!

We are 'retired' and we wanted a new venture so we bought 5 beautiful acres where we built our dream home.  We also built a barn that we spend more time in than the dream house.  Then we went on line in search of the perfect animal for our new barn, and NOT a big animal as we've always had small pets.  Even our dog is a Chihuahua!

We ended up with miniature donkeys after doing a lot of research on them.  We met so many nice people on the web last summer doing all this research, so in October of 2002 we hitched up our brand new horse trailer to our RV and we took off to pick up our new babies in Ohio, Tennessee and Texas.

The round trip was a little over 7400 miles in only one month!  We had bought 9 donkeys but of course we had to buy one more from Dayle at Half Ass Acres which made our total 10 donkeys in a 2/horse trailer!!!  We picked up our last donkey in La Grange, Texas from Rita at Low Down Donkeys, and headed for home.  It took us 3½ days to travel over 3100 miles to get home.  We did very little sleeping, but a lot of stopping and watering, feeding and resting the little critters!

As we look back on it now we realize how much God was with us all the way because we were total NEWBY'S when it came to any of this!  All the miniature donkeys arrived home very happy little critters to get on solid ground again.

Did I mention they rode in the trailer for the whole 3½ days and not one donkey got stressed?  Two hours after getting them home our 5 yr old granddaughter was walking in their pen petting and brushing them.  It was an adventure!

Click here to see a larger view of our little granddaughter hugging one of our little miniature donkeys.

One of our original jennets had a foal on Father's Day and last Spring I bought another brood jennet in Washington State, which is a lot closer than Ohio and Tennessee.  She is due any time now.  Check back here soon to see the new addition to Eola Hills Miniature Donkey Farm's family.
